Gallery Lodoe
Gallery Lodoe presents contemporary paintings and artifacts from throughout Asia. Known mostly for its breathtaking traditional art, a new breed of Asian artist has emerged and is rapidly gaining prominence on the international art scene. With China and India dominating the scene, Gallery Lodoe works to find outstanding artists in less accessible regions of Asia. The Gallery’s opening exhibition, through March 2008, features two extraordinarily talented Burmese painters and its permanent collection includes the work of several uniquely gifted Tibetan artists.
“One must respect this new group of artists, who work not only against the grain of their traditional cultures, but oftentimes in politically charged atmospheres. Political and social structures are changing, the role of race, tribe, caste and gender are mutating, traditional cultures are being opened to an international world, all at an increasing pace. It is important that we not only save historical artifacts, but also that we record this place and time in sometimes disappearing cultures for future generations.” owner Jamyang Lodoe.
